OK, it has to be said: some romance book titles are just so fucking cringe-worthy! I mean, sure, they might describe the book perfectly, but come on—The Stepbrother’s Virgin Nanny (A Grumpy/Sunshine Single-Dad Workplace Romance)? Why even bother with a blurb? There’s barely anything left to tell! I get that you know exactly what you’re getting into, but come on, leave a little to the imagination for the blurb and the reading, right? (I made that title up just now, so if it happens to be an actual title of a book you love, sorry—my bad.)
Now, I don’t mind a simple, lazy title. Like, an MC’s name or occupation, something basic. But I’d like to see a bit more effort put into it so that I’m intrigued enough to read the blurb and decide if it’s a book for me. I really appreciate a clever title—it shows some pride and thought from the author. Sweet Destiny—and it’s about someone named Destiny? Nice. Or Harmony’s Ride—and it’s about a character named Harmony and a motorcycle club romance? Cute. Or even better, when the title doesn’t make sense until you’ve read the book, like Forever Never by Lucy Score. (Again, I made up the first two titles, so if they exist, my bad! and y’all should read all of Lucy Score’s book now!)
What are y’all’s thoughts on titles? I know I’m being judgy, but hey, it’s my blog, so… WE. 😎
